Room 2

Cultural and Identity

In Term 1 in Room 2, we started learning about our whakapapa (ancestry) and where our ancestors came from. Our class was inspired to do this by reading a book called Scoop and Scribe in search of the Lost Waka of Aotearoa. During reading and after we had finished the book, we completed activities based around the subject.  These included making our own waka, doing chapter summaries as we read the book and making our own paper dolls dressed up in traditional clothes from the countries our ancestors were from.
Some of the cultures were; Australian, Pacific Islanders, Holland - Deutsch, South African, European, NZ European and Maori.  We also had an artifacts week and brought items that represented ourselves.
